Right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex stimulation reduces impulsivity in borderline personality disorder

nature.com

A new study suggests repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) targeting the right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex may reduce impulsivity in individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder. The proof-of-concept study found that right VLPFC stimulation, but not left or bilateral, significantly reduced impulsivity in BPD patients. Emotional reactivity was not affected. This non-invasive brain stimulation technique showed promise as a safe and tolerable option for managing a core symptom of BPD, with no significant adverse events reported.
