Richard Price discusses new novel Lazarus Man and his writing challenges

Richard Price, a 75-year-old novelist and screenwriter, has released a new book titled *Lazarus Man*, set in Harlem. The novel, which took 17 years to complete, focuses on four strangers during a tenement collapse rather than crime, marking a shift from his previous works. Price, known for *Clockers* and *The Wire*, reflects on his writing process, expressing that he finds writing anxiety-inducing. He notes that while he prefers writing novels, he often wishes he were working on screenplays, highlighting the challenges of both forms. Currently, Price is working on TV pilots, including one about lifeguards and another on a youth LAPD cadet program. He emphasizes the importance of research and understanding the nuances of the subjects he writes about.
