Two retired teachers from Sussex, Jon Wilburn and Steve Potter, are set to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic from the Canary Islands to Antigua. They will join two others in a sustainable boat named Saltie, starting on December 12. The team aims to raise money for Diabetes UK, Cancer Research, and The Final Straw Foundation while raising awareness about marine pollution. They have prepared for the journey for three years and will consume over 5,000 calories daily during the expedition. During their row, the crew will measure plastic levels in the ocean and share their findings with schools in the UK. They have already visited 40 schools to discuss marine pollution.
