Retired officer fights lightning strikes, saving Jharkhand lives

Retired Army officer Col. Sanjay Srivastava is now working to prevent lightning strike deaths through awareness programs and infrastructure improvements. Srivastava, a former air defense officer, is advocating for lightning-resilient infrastructure and educating people on safety measures, particularly in his home state of Jharkhand, where lightning is a major cause of fatalities. He began this work after retiring in 2008. Srivastava's efforts include installing lightning arrestors and developing lightning-resilient cities. He is currently the chairman of a national campaign and plans to establish a research center focused on lightning safety.
