Restoration begins on 1,000-year-old Torre del Barbarossa in Mandello del Lario

ilgiorno.it (Italian) —

Restoration work begins Monday on the 12th-century Torre del Barbarossa in Mandello del Lario, Italy, marking the first phase of a project to preserve the historic tower for future generations. The initial works, costing approximately 350,000 euros and lasting three months, will address the structure and systems, with specialists from Selva Mercurio and subcontractor B&C Restauri e Decorazioni handling the job. Mayor Riccardo Fasoli called it only the first step, with further interventions planned. The tower, nearly 25 meters tall with a square base, has stood for a millennium and once hosted Emperor Frederick Barbarossa in 1158. It houses an ethnographic museum and is owned by the municipality since 1976, with the second phase of work set to focus on the museum area.
