Residents in Flixton are dealing with ongoing sewage issues after severe flooding on January 1. Raw sewage has been reported flowing from drains onto properties, with complaints about debris, including condoms, in the water. Church Road reopened on January 5 after being closed for over three days. However, a small stream of sewage continues to flow along the pavement. United Utilities stated that both the sewer and surface water systems were overwhelmed by the flooding. The River Mersey overflowed due to heavy rainfall, impacting local drainage. United Utilities is working with Trafford Council to address the situation and assist residents as water levels decrease.
