Researchers identify distinct pancreatic cancer types, improving diagnostics

welt.de (German)

Pancreatic cancer cells carry surface markers previously thought to indicate cancer, even in healthy tissue. Researchers identified fundamental differences between pancreatic cancer types. A new study found rare cells in healthy pancreatic ducts with cancer markers. Crucially, two major pancreatic cancer types, PDAC and ASCP, show distinct cellular organization differences. This discovery could lead to better diagnostics and treatments by recognizing PDAC and ASCP as separate diseases. The role of these newly identified cells in cancer development remains unknown.
