Researchers film rare bigfin squids in the Atlantic depths

Rare bigfin squids were filmed at 4300 meters deep in the Atlantic, revealing new details about these mysterious abyssal creatures. Researchers captured exceptionally clear footage of two Magnapinna squids in the Doldrums Fracture Zone during a Schmidt Ocean Institute expedition. This is a rare event, as only a few dozen sightings have been documented previously. The Magnapinna squid, known for its long, thin tentacles, inhabits deep-sea environments. Previous footage from 2007 contributed to its enigmatic reputation, but this new, clearer video offers a less threatening depiction and highlights the unexplored nature of the ocean depths.
