Report ranks fast food chains by illness risk as E. coli outbreak affects McDonald's
A new report highlights fast food chains most likely to cause illness, with Sweetgreen topping the list. Diners at Sweetgreen were found to be ten times more likely to get sick than average, followed by Applebee's and McDonald's. This report comes amid an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders, which has sickened 75 people. McDonald's has since removed onions from some locations and reinstated the Quarter Pounder after tests showed the beef patties were not the source of the outbreak. The report analyzed sickness complaints from 70,000 restaurants in 2023. It revealed that McDonald's had the most complaints in 23 states, while Chipotle and Taco Bell followed. The findings raise ongoing concerns about food safety in fast food establishments.
