Renewable energy investments exceed fossil fuels globally
Renewable energy investments are surging, reaching $2.2 trillion this year and surpassing fossil fuel investments, signaling a major shift in the global energy landscape. This represents over 40% of the $3.3 trillion total energy sector investment. Solar power is a key driver, attracting $450 billion, while China leads global investment in renewables, exceeding the combined spending of the U.S. and EU. Grid infrastructure, however, struggles to keep pace with the rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity. Despite potential headwinds from U.S. policy changes, market economics and corporate commitments to sustainability are expected to sustain the momentum of renewable energy growth, with the potential to significantly decarbonize the power sector.
