Reliance Jio leads subscriber losses as India's mobile broadband market declines

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

India's top telecom companies, including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, lost subscribers for the third straight month in September. This decline follows data tariff hikes implemented in July. Jio lost 7.9 million users, the largest drop among them. The overall mobile broadband user base in India fell by 5.6 million in September, marking the first decline in two years. The total user base now stands at 901 million, down from 906 million in August. In contrast, state-owned BSNL gained 1.5 million users. Jio's market share in the data segment decreased by 60 basis points due to the price sensitivity of its customers. Despite the losses, Jio remains the largest player in the 4G and 5G market, holding a 51% share.
