This marks a 47 percent increase in users since May 2023. X's user base declined by 8 percent during the same period, falling to 22.1 million users. The platform has faced criticism over content moderation since Elon Musk's takeover in 2022 and struggles with competition from Meta's Threads. Ofcom's report also noted rising concerns about misinformation online, with four in ten UK adults encountering false information. Many users reported difficulty in identifying AI-generated content and expressed belief in conspiracy theories.
