Christian Früchtl has joined Red Bull Salzburg from Italian club US Lecce as the new second-choice goalkeeper, signing a three-year contract behind starter Christian Zawieschitzky. The 26-year-old German, who trained at Bayern Munich from age 15 and made 80 appearances for Austria Vienna, fills the previously vacant backup role. He said he will give his best to support the team; sporting director Marcus Mann called him an “absolute reinforcement.” The transfer was first reported by Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung on Tuesday and confirmed Wednesday. Früchtl previously played for Bayern Munich’s youth setup before moving to Lecce.
