Raytheon wins $271 million Navy missile defense contract for U.S., Australia, Japan

The U.S. Navy has awarded Raytheon Missiles and Defense a $271 million contract to modernize the Aegis Weapon System and supply MK 99 equipment for missile defense on warships, the Pentagon announced Aug. 3. The contract includes engineering support for the U.S., Australian, and Japanese navies. Work will occur in Massachusetts, Virginia, and other locations, with the value potentially rising to $302 million if additional work is authorized through December 2032. The Aegis Combat System has been central to U.S. surface-fleet air and missile defense since the 1980s, equipping Ticonderoga-class cruisers, Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, and allied warships. Naval Sea Systems Command awarded the contract.
