Rare Malayan tapir calf born at Point Defiance Zoo in Washington

A Malayan tapir calf was born at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington, on February 2, 2025. This is only the second tapir birth in the zoo's 120-year history. The calf is healthy and has distinctive white spots and stripes. The mother, Yuna, and father, Baku, are both 10 years old. The calf will stay behind the scenes in the Asian Forest Sanctuary to bond with Yuna. A veterinary checkup is planned after this bonding period.
