bbc.com

A rare 700-year-old letter recommending William Wallace will be displayed in Edinburgh for five hours on St Andrew’s Day. It is one of only two known documents linked to the famous Scottish warrior. The letter, written in Latin shorthand, was sent to the Pope's court in 1300. It was discovered in the Tower of London in the 1800s and is believed to have helped Wallace secure safe passage to Rome. The letter is on loan from the National Archive at Kew. Two tapestries inspired by the letters will also be shown at General Register House in Edinburgh on November 30.
