Rare fairy lantern plant discovered in Malaysia needs urgent conservation

A rare, underground-dwelling plant species, Thismia selangorensis, has been discovered in Malaysia. It uniquely obtains energy from fungi instead of sunlight. The tiny plant, found in a forest reserve near Kuala Lumpur, is critically endangered. Researchers documented fewer than 20 individuals in a limited area.
