Rare Devil's fingers fungus spotted in East Sussex, UK
A rare fungus known as the Devil's fingers has been spotted in East Sussex, UK. This unusual fungus resembles an egg with red tentacles and emits a smell similar to rotting flesh. It has been spreading across southern England since arriving from Australia 120 years ago. The fungus begins as a "witch's egg" and develops tentacles that collapse and rot after a few days, attracting insects that help spread its spores. Nature enthusiasts Lisa Saw and Sue Robinson discovered it during a walk in the woods. Meanwhile, there is growing concern over the presence of Death Cap mushrooms in the UK, which are highly poisonous. These mushrooms thrive in wet conditions and can be mistaken for edible varieties, posing serious risks to foragers.
