Ransomware attack disrupts Comtel data centre affecting multiple brokerage firms in India

A ransomware attack on Comtel's data centre on December 9 has affected around 16 brokerage firms, including IIFL Securities, 5 Paisa, and Axis Securities. The attack compromised the security of brokers and their clients. As a result, the Multi Commodity Exchange and National Stock Exchange have blocked access for these brokers. They must obtain certification from certified auditors to regain access, as required by the Securities and Exchange Board of India. The attack may have also impacted a related system used for order management, raising concerns about potential client data exposure. The full extent of the breach is still being assessed.
