QuestStack Tool Unlocks Quest 1 VR Headset Bootloader

A new tool called QuestStack has fully unlocked the bootloader on the Quest 1 virtual reality headset, freeing the device from Meta's proprietary restrictions. The tool automates a complex privilege escalation process to provide stable, privileged hardware access. QuestStack works only on the first-generation Quest, released in 2021, and a web version by developer darknight1050 simplifies the process to plugging in the headset and visiting a webpage. The headset remains technically capable despite being surpassed by newer models. Meta has largely abandoned support for the Quest 1, with no requirements for new content compatibility or general consideration given to the device in recent years. This unlock effectively repurposes the aging hardware for independent use.
