Quebec implements uniform recycling rules to boost efficiency and sustainability

As of January 1, 2025, Quebec has implemented uniform recycling rules for all residents. This reform allows various containers and packaging to be placed in the same recycling bin, with a few exceptions. Éco Entreprises Québec now manages the recycling system under extended producer responsibility. This centralized approach aims to improve collection efficiency and increase recycling rates. The reform also includes financial incentives for eco-friendly packaging. Companies will face higher fees for using hard-to-recycle materials, encouraging them to adopt more sustainable practices.
