Quad secures critical mineral supply chains
The Quad nations launched the Critical Minerals Initiative to diversify and secure supply chains for essential minerals, aiming to reduce reliance on any single country. This initiative was announced at the second Quad foreign ministers' meeting in Washington, D.C. The initiative addresses concerns about the vulnerability of key supply chains, particularly for critical minerals like lithium and rare earths, which are vital for modern technology and the energy transition. The Quad seeks to counter potential economic coercion and supply disruptions. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Quad to strengthen economic security and resilience, especially given China's dominance in processing and refining these minerals. India has also launched its own National Critical Minerals Mission.
