Punjab minister urges officials to enhance support for persons with disabilities
Punjab's social security minister, Dr. Baljit Kaur, has instructed officials to improve the implementation of government schemes for persons with disabilities. She emphasized the need for timely completion of work on 144 government buildings to make them accessible. Dr. Kaur also called for strict adherence to the RPWD Act, 2016, and directed departments to report on benefits provided to disabled individuals. She highlighted the need to expedite pending UDID card applications and resolve discrepancies in disability assessments. Additionally, the minister urged collaboration with NGOs for vocational training and directed the Employment Generation Department to hold special camps. She emphasized the importance of addressing grievances and ensuring information about schemes is widely available.
