Pune Metro line delayed; opens March 2026
Pune's third Metro line, connecting the city to Hinjewadi, will begin operations in March 2026, a delay from the initial March 2025 target. The project's concessionaire requested the extension. The delay stems from issues including delayed barricading permissions on Ganeshkhind Road, a major thoroughfare, and utility shifting challenges. Over 85% of the 23km line is complete, with 23 stations planned. The line, developed by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, will offer direct access to Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park. Trial runs are now slated for early next year, and residents have expressed frustration over traffic delays.
