Pune district plans to establish two new municipal corporations for Chakan and Hadapsar
Pune district may soon have four municipal corporations, with plans for a new civic body for Chakan village and nearby areas. Discussions are also ongoing for a Hadapsar Municipal Corporation to serve the eastern parts of Pune city. Currently, the district has two municipal corporations: Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. The state government is reviewing the demand for new corporations, which has been discussed for over a decade, particularly after the merger of 34 villages into Pune's limits. Residents have reported issues like water shortages and poor infrastructure. Experts support the creation of smaller municipal corporations for better management. However, no final decision has been made on these proposals yet.
