Pune dams discharge as Mulshi, Pavana, Temghar catchments see heavy rain

All major dams in Pune district continued discharging water Tuesday as steady rainfall persisted, with combined storage in the Khadakwasla circle reaching 99.94% and flood alerts remaining in effect along the Mutha river. Mulshi, Pavana, and Temghar catchments each recorded over 100mm of rainfall in 24 hours, while Khadakwasla dam released 18,000 cusec into the Mutha river. Temghar's live storage hit 99.54% and was expected to reach full capacity Wednesday, prompting plans for controlled releases. Downstream reservoirs also saw elevated discharges, including Ujani at 80,000 cusec, Ghod at 30,000 cusec, and Veer at 13,000 cusec. Irrigation officials warned of potential sudden discharge increases due to intense rainfall, urging the Pune Municipal Corporation to maintain flood alerts for low-lying areas.
