Prostate cancer patients explore complementary therapies to enhance treatment outcomes
Prostate cancer patients are increasingly seeking complementary therapies to regain control over their treatment. Research shows that 87% of cancer patients try some form of complementary or alternative medicine, often to manage symptoms and side effects from conventional treatments. A recent study identified eight lifestyle changes, dubbed the "Prostate 8," that may help slow cancer progression. These include regular vigorous exercise, avoiding tobacco, and increasing intake of cruciferous vegetables and healthy fats, among others. These modifications are seen as safe and potentially beneficial alongside standard medical treatments. Complementary therapies like acupuncture, yoga, and mindfulness meditation can help alleviate pain, fatigue, and anxiety in prostate cancer patients. Experts emphasize that these therapies should complement, not replace, traditional medical interventions for effective cancer care.
