Progress in women's rights is fragile and threatened
A new UN Women report reveals that while the world is more gender-equal than ever, progress is fragile. In 2024, one in four countries reported setbacks in women's rights, including Georgia's removal of its gender quota for parliament. Despite improvements in education and maternal health, issues like gender-based violence and employment gaps persist. Women in the EU face high levels of violence and only 44% are employed compared to 69% of men. Funding cuts, particularly from the US, are impacting UN Women’s efforts in various countries, including Ukraine. The regional director emphasized the need for continued support to ensure progress for women and girls is maintained.
