Private schools dominate AFL draft with Brighton Grammar and St Patrick's College leading the way

Brighton Grammar and St Patrick’s College Ballarat dominated the AFL draft this year, producing five and three draftees, respectively. This marks a significant achievement for Brighton, surpassing their previous record from 11 years ago. Only 19 of the 71 draftees came from public schools, highlighting the ongoing trend of private schools leading in AFL talent. Brighton's director of sport noted that parents often seek private education for their children, valuing academic and networking opportunities. St Patrick’s College also celebrated its success, with students joining AFL teams. The school emphasizes character development alongside athletic achievement, aiming to prepare students for life beyond football.
