Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reports nearly RM1 billion paid in court settlements due to civil servant negligence since 2020

Errant civil servants have cost the government nearly RM1 billion in court settlements since 2020. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed the figure in a parliamentary reply. The government paid RM933.36 million between 2020 and 2025 due to negligence and wrongful acts by government officers or agencies. This was in response to court rulings. Ministries will investigate such cases, and disciplinary action or surcharges may be imposed on negligent officers to minimize future financial liabilities.
