Premier League gambling shirt ban explained as Man Utd signs £20m Betway deal
Premier League clubs' voluntary ban on gambling sponsors on the front of matchday shirts officially takes effect for the 2026/27 season, yet Manchester United has signed a £20 million-per-year deal with betting company Betway. The ban applies only to the front of matchday jerseys, leaving betting companies legally permitted to sponsor shirt sleeves, training kits, and in-stadium advertising boards. This exemption directly allows United's multi-year agreement with Betway to proceed. Under the deal, Betway becomes the club's principal partner, with its logo featured on training kits for both men's and women's teams, as well as branding around Old Trafford and the Progress with Unity stadium.
