Prada partners with Axiom Space to design NASA's Artemis III spacesuit
Axiom Space and luxury brand Prada are collaborating to design NASA's Artemis III spacesuit, marking a shift in spacesuit design by combining fashion with advanced engineering. This partnership aims to create a modern suit for lunar missions. NASA's current extravehicular activity suits have been in use since 1982, with no new designs for lunar missions since the Apollo program. Axiom Space received a $228 million contract in 2022 to develop the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) suit. The AxEMU suit features an adaptive fit for 99% of astronauts, advanced materials for durability, enhanced mobility, and safety innovations. It was unveiled at the International Astronautical Congress and is undergoing testing, with a critical design review expected in 2025.
