£60m pothole repair plan launched across Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester Mayor Bev Craig has launched a £60m pothole repair programme, responding to complaints from residents across all 10 boroughs. The funding will repair and maintain over a million square metres of road. The money is divided among boroughs based on road length, with Manchester receiving £8.16m and Wigan £8.24m. Craig said the investment addresses the 2.5 billion annual journeys made on local roads, though RAC's Rod Dennis called for guaranteed long-term funding instead of a "patch and dash approach." Garage owner Dave Rigby noted potholes cause frequent vehicle damage, including suspension and tyre issues. The funding comes from existing transport budgets following a national increase in government support for road repairs.
