Poughkeepsie woman, kids escape manhole explosion

A Poughkeepsie mother and her children narrowly avoided serious injury when a manhole exploded just seconds after they passed. Security footage captured the family's close call on Saturday. The explosion, caused by high levels of carbon monoxide, sent concrete and metal debris into the air. The family was walking on Academy Street when the blast occurred, missing the impact by mere seconds. The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department responded, evacuating nearby buildings and closing the street for investigation. Central Hudson was called to determine the cause of the explosions.
