Port of Montreal terminals close as dockworkers launch partial strike
Dockworkers at the Port of Montreal have begun a new partial strike, leading to the indefinite closure of the Viau and Maisonneuve terminals. This shutdown affects 40% of the port's container handling capacity. The strike started at 11 a.m. and involves nearly 1,200 longshore workers. It follows previous strikes, including a three-day work stoppage earlier this month and a 24-hour strike on Sunday. The union is focused on a scheduling dispute with Termont, the terminal operator. The Maritime Employers Association has criticized the strike but stated that changes to work schedules require formal negotiations.
