Porsche 911 GT3 faces potential discontinuation without emissions upgrades

The Porsche 911 GT3, praised by Jeremy Clarkson, may face discontinuation unless it adapts to new emissions regulations. Porsche GT boss Andreas Preuninger stated the current model cannot meet the upcoming Euro 7 standards without electrification or turbocharging. The Euro 7 regulations, effective July 1, 2025, will impose stricter limits on vehicle emissions, including those from wear and tear. The GT3's existing 4.0-litre engine does not comply, prompting discussions about a potential hybrid system similar to the 911 GTS. Porsche may need to innovate quickly to keep the GT3 viable. A hybrid version could utilize a turbocharged engine with an electric motor, aligning with trends seen in other luxury brands.
