Police locate kidnapped NYSC members but can't rescue due to landmines
Police in Imo State have located the camp where about 19 abducted prospective NYSC members are being held, but cannot launch a rescue strike because the site is reportedly mined with explosives. Commissioner of Police Audu Bosso said drones identified the location on Friday after operatives trailed the kidnappers into the bush. He explained that security agencies are preparing to move in with bulldozers and armoured personnel carriers to rescue the victims unhurt. The prospective corps members were abducted Thursday morning along the Owerri-Onitsha Road while travelling from Ibadan to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states. Police rescued 10 victims at the scene, and no group has claimed responsibility.
