A fire at an agricultural operation in Bernsgrün, Greiz district, killed hundreds of pigs and caused over one million euros in damage. Police have launched an investigation against a 25-year-old man on suspicion of serious arson. The fire broke out in a pig barn late Wednesday afternoon, which collapsed shortly after firefighters arrived. A suspicious person was seen leaving the premises, and the blaze spread to neighboring buildings, requiring more than 80 firefighters to control it. This is the second fire at the same cooperative within two weeks, following a warehouse blaze on August 17 that destroyed 1,200 straw bales. No people were injured, and a smoke-related public warning has since been lifted.
