Police arrest woman for ¥4.3 billion in bogus Jump merchandise orders

A 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of repeatedly ordering and canceling over ¥4.3 billion worth of Shueisha's Jump merchandise, disrupting business operations. Restaurant worker Mayu Yoshida used 238 accounts to place over 2,000 bogus orders, failing to pay convenience-store prepayments or refusing cash-on-delivery packages. Shueisha incurred about ¥7.5 million in shipping losses. Yoshida confessed she acted for stress relief—gaining satisfaction from buying before items sold out—and held no grudge against Shueisha. Her behavior began in October 2023 after years of legitimate use.
