Plum baseball excels in Florida, prepares for season
The Plum baseball team recently returned from a successful trip to Florida, where they participated in a spring baseball event in St. Petersburg. The warm weather was a welcome change after a long winter, and the experience helped the team gear up for their season. Plum's coach, Carl Vollmer, praised the trip as a great opportunity for competition. The team faced various opponents from across the United States, including teams from New York and Florida. They won all three official games and two scrimmages during their time there. Vollmer reflected on the changes in baseball over his 21 years as head coach. While the fundamentals of the game remain the same, training techniques and player development have evolved significantly. During the trip, Plum had a full roster, including ten pitchers. Junior Braden Kemmerer and senior Michael Tedrick, who had an impressive 10 strikeouts in his start, were among those who performed well. Vollmer noted that many players stepped up, despite the team losing 10 seniors to graduation last year. Now that the Florida trip is over, the team is focused on the upcoming Section 1-5A season. Vollmer expressed cautious optimism about their prospects, acknowledging the skills of many unproven players. His goal is to effectively combine the team's talents to achieve success on the field.
