Plain City Council proposes one-year data center moratorium

Plain City Village Council held a first reading Aug. 5 on a proposed one-year moratorium on data center development, which would halt such applications if enacted. The moratorium would bar applications for projects containing data centers for one year from approval date, giving council time to research and write zoning rules. Grove City enacted a similar pause in June; Sunbury and Pataskala voters will decide on bans in November. Council did not discuss the measure during the reading. A second reading and emergency declaration are planned, allowing immediate effect. The next regular meeting is Aug. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
