Plácido Arango's legacy returns to Bilbao museum's rebirth

deia.eus (Spanish) —

The Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao has opened a tribute exhibition honoring the legacy of collector Plácido Arango, featuring over 100 works displayed across five rooms until late 2030 as part of the museum's expansion program. Arango, a Mexican-born businessman who died in 2020, was a major benefactor who donated works to institutions including the Prado and the Bilbao museum. His family has lent pieces for rotating displays, joined by loans from the Metropolitan Museum and other collections. The exhibition includes works by El Greco, Goya, Miró, and Warhol, extending outdoors with sculptures by Chillida and Caro. The museum's expansion also debuts 750 works, including 150 shown for the first time.
