Pixel 9 Pro temperature sensor shows mixed results compared to Flir thermal camera
The Pixel 9 Pro includes a temperature sensor, similar to the one in the Pixel 8 Pro, which measures temperatures for humans and surfaces. This sensor is FDA-approved for medical use, unlike the Flir One Edge Pro thermal camera, which is designed for industrial applications. In tests, the Pixel sensor showed significant variances compared to the Flir camera when measuring human and pet temperatures. For example, it recorded a human temperature of 36°C, while the Flir showed 31.6°C. The Pixel also performed similarly with food and drink, but both devices struggled with accuracy. Overall, the Flir camera is better for broader temperature assessments, while the Pixel sensor is quick for specific checks. However, neither device is reliable for measuring food temperatures, and a dedicated food thermometer is recommended for safety.
