Pimpri Chinchwad illegal buildings face demolition; amnesty scheme for regularisable ones

Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that illegal constructions in Pimpri Chinchwad eligible for regularisation will be covered under a government amnesty scheme, while non-regularisable structures will face demolition. The decision aims to protect homebuyers from financial losses. Bawankule, reviewing the issue with municipal commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi, said the approach mirrors one adopted in Nagpur, where around 3,900 properties were declared illegal. Developers are selling unauthorised structures to common people, causing severe problems, and some buildings are constructed in ways that can never be regularised, he noted. The civic body has already sent a list of unauthorised properties to the inspector general of registration to block fresh transactions. The PCMC will also request MSEDCL to deny new electricity connections to these structures, and water connections will similarly be restricted. Vacant illegal buildings will be demolished on priority, and commercial properties, including showrooms, are also covered. The list includes structures in red zones, flood lines, and properties affected by erstwhile PCNDTA rules, with a broader action plan to be discussed in a separate meeting.
