Reserve Our Gallery in Woodland Park recently hosted a celebration for the Pikes Peak Plein Air Painters. This event highlighted the beauty of Colorado's landscapes through the artists' works. Visitors could immerse themselves in the creativity and inspiration drawn from the natural surroundings. One featured artist, Jerry Edwards, started painting during the pandemic. His watercolor piece, “Mountain View,” depicts a cog railway car descending from Pikes Peak. Edwards aims to make his watercolors as vibrant as oil paintings. He has also shown his works in another local gallery. Tom Lockhart is another artist who shifted from running a family furniture business to pursuing art. With a degree in fine arts, he has exhibited worldwide over his 40-year career. His colorful Colorado landscapes caught the attention of many at the event. Cyndi Deswik presented an abstract piece in blue, aiming to evoke different interpretations from viewers. She began painting for enjoyment during her retirement. Julie Cutting, a former physical education teacher, regularly showcases her colorful California landscapes at various art shows. She describes her artistic journey as a way to discover her true self. Hank Maertens, aged 90, captures moments from nature, including experiences on cross-country skis. Michelle Melville, who combines watercolors and oils, enjoys the supportive atmosphere among the plein air artists, saying, “Painting is a lot of fun.” The gallery, owned by Gayle Gross, has played a significant role in enhancing the local art scene. For this event, she collaborated with Michael and Diana Gault, who also contribute to local art education.
