Physiotherapist sentenced to 44 years for abusing disabled girl in India

A 36-year-old physiotherapist, Shinoj, was sentenced to 44 years in prison by a Pocso court in Thiruvananthapuram for molesting a disabled girl. The abuse occurred during treatment sessions from 2014 to 2019, when the victim was aged 16 to 21. Shinoj was also fined Rs 8.5 lakh, with an additional four years added to his sentence if he fails to pay. The court ordered that the fine be given to the victim as compensation. The abuse was reported after the girl's parents noticed changes in her behavior. An investigation followed, revealing Shinoj's attempts to pressure the victim into recanting her claims, which ultimately contributed to his conviction.
