Phoenix police investigate violent arrest of deaf man that sparked national outrage

The Phoenix Police Department's Special Investigation Detail is reviewing the violent arrest of a deaf man, Tyron McAlpin, which has sparked national outrage. This review is separate from an internal disciplinary investigation that began on August 30. McAlpin was arrested on August 19 after being falsely accused. During the arrest, he was punched and tasered by officers Ben Harris and Kyle Sue. The criminal charges against McAlpin were dismissed following media attention. An SID detective visited McAlpin last week to discuss the incident, but he directed the detective to his lawyers. The police had not disclosed the officers' investigation status during the criminal proceedings against McAlpin.
