PHIVOLCS reports 32 volcanic earthquakes at Mt. Kanlaon in 24 hours
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported 32 volcanic earthquakes at Mt. Kanlaon in 24 hours. The volcano, located in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, shows signs of inflation. PHIVOLCS recorded a sulfur dioxide output of 8,600 tonnes and a 75-meter ash plume moving southwest. The volcano remains under Alert Level 3, indicating intensified unrest. Residents within a 6-kilometer radius are advised to evacuate. Authorities warn of potential hazards, including explosive eruptions, lava flows, ashfall, and lahars during heavy rains.
