Philippine police reported peaceful election despite violence
Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Election Day as "very peaceful" despite acknowledging incidents of election-related violence across the country. The PNP chief also stated that arrests were ongoing to prevent disruptions. Reports of violence emerged from multiple regions, including Abra, where gunfire near a polling center injured voters, and Negros Occidental, where two supporters were killed. Other incidents occurred in Lanao del Sur and Basilan provinces. The PNP deployed 160,000 officers nationwide and will increase security during vote counting. The police are focused on securing the canvassing of votes, with a full alert status in place.
