P.E.I. government hires seven new medical professionals to boost healthcare system
The P.E.I. government has announced the hiring of seven new medical professionals, including four associate physicians, one physician assistant, and two specialists. Most will begin work next year as part of efforts to address the province's healthcare challenges. In the past year, P.E.I. has successfully recruited 37 physicians, despite 14 leaving the system. This marks an increase from 24 hires in 2023. For the first time, associate physicians and physician assistants are joining the provincial healthcare system. The province continues to face recruitment challenges, particularly in matching foreign-trained physicians with appropriate specialties. Health P.E.I. is also implementing changes to improve patient care and streamline the recruitment process.
